Pig Farming and Cruelty to Animals in New Zealand-What should be done about it?
Keeping pigs in small cages which they can barely stand in is unacceptable…..This would not be tolerated if you kept cats, dogs or other pets this way, as the SPCA would take you to court over mistreatment. Why does NZ Government allow pigs to be farmed this way? The same goes for hens put in small cages for eggs? I find this intolerable and we need to ask where our ham, bacon and eggs are coming from. Would you keep your pets in cages day and night with no room to move and never let them out during their lifetime…so why accept other animals to be kept this way?
Yes, I would also like to know what the SPCA are doing about this. Meat should also be labelled in the Supermarkets if they are free range or not and show if they are SPCA approved.
Murphy, did you see the pigs tortured eyes? They’re intelligent creatures and deserve better treatment than this. I say that all farmers they approached on closeup had something to hide, otherwise they would have openly and freely shown all farms without a guilty conscience.

I have to wonder why Kiwis are getting so uptight about pig farming in N.Z. I was under the impression most of the pork that reaches our supermarkets is imported, Although you would never know as labeling is not mandatory as with most products we purchase through our food outlets.
I can not agree with animal cruelty of any form and do not beleive it is necessary for the sake of profits, and i am an ex-farmer [ dairy 20yrs experience]
N.Z. Farmers could capitalise on the whole situation by showing the way and producing quality not quantity,
The whole intensive farming system has been driven by academics with little concern for animal welfare, the same situation was already being developed back in the sixtys and i can see evidence of these practises everywhere i travel throughout the country.

Something defiantly needs to be done but don’t know where to start or even know what you would pitch to them.
SPCA should stand up and shut them down, pigs are a animal and deserved to be treated better like all other animals deserve to be treated.

They say that the farmer who’s pig farm was seen on TV is not breaking any animal welfare laws. That is the problem. That sort of creulty is LEGAL!!!! This is a pretty much consumer driven campain. WE need to show those disgustuing farmers that we are not going to buy their products if they treat their animals like that.

Boycott caged pork, bacon etc. Write a letter to your MP, tell your friends. The review of the pig welfare standards is happening this year, so we need to get onto this!!

As the population increases, the demand for pork, lamb, beef, chicken, eggs, butter and milk also increases. Moreover, how many young people want to leave school and go farming these days? Bugger all.

I bet half you lot are townies who have no bloody idea how the farming industry works. And in economic terms, its all about supply and demand.

Now if you’re that concerned about animal welfare, raise your own animals for food. Some of us farmers are sick of doing it for you.

P.S. - Organic and free range farming methods are labour intensive.

"Animal Welfare Investigators" have already cleared the pig farm of any wrongdoing which is downright disgusting and leading me to believe nothing further is going to happen to save those poor pigs. Did you see those sad and depressing eyes? Some pigs couldn’t even move in their crates and studies have shown Pigs suffer in crates and are far more intelligent than Dogs and Chimpanzees making this cruelty even more unacceptable. I think the owner of that pig farm made a pretty lame excuse when he said "The Pigs were provoked by SAFE, that’s why they were screaming and chewing on bars". Yeah right!

Its an absolute outrage and should be stopped. Good on Mike King for speaking out. I am boycotting all non free range bacon and will continue to do so until proper animal welfare standards are met. Unfortunately this is probably an uphill battle.
Jamie Oliver made a TV show about cruelty to pigs in England and Europe. From what i remember it is just as bad over there as it is here. I wonder which countries have proper laws preventing such cruelty towards animals. I also feel that similar cruel treatment of chickens should be outlawed.

This incident is so embarrassing to the country. I thought New Zealand was better than that. Come on Government do something!!!

finding nemo
the majestic was a good movie
chocolat (if its what i think it is , great movie)
pirates of the caribean movies, first one is the best, second is ok, third is also really good, if you like the series just ewatching that series would take up a good amoutnn of itme
shallow hal was a cut emovie, woth watching
mr. deeds is sort of funny, if u like adam sandler funny its good
i remember really enjoying the lizxzie mcguire movie when i was younger….you could enjoy that.
juno, its just a calssic you shoudl defintely watch that no matter how many times youve seen it, even if its not especailly good haha
princess dieares, GrEAT movie, defintely watch it again if you like that type of moive

watchign the harry potter movies from begininning to end could take the whole day, and if youre a fan its somethign which is also very worth it to take the time to do …
