Platoon (1986)

IMDB rating: 8.20

Plot: Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen) is a young, naive American who gives up college and volunteers for combat in Vietnam. Upon arrival, he quickly discovers that his presence is quite nonessential, and is considered insignificant to the other soldiers, as he has not fought for as long as the rest of them and felt the effects of combat. Chris has two commanding officers, the ill-tempered and indestructible Staff Sergeant Robert Barnes (Tom Berenger) and the more pleasant and cooperative Sergeant Elias Grodin (Willem Dafoe). A line is drawn between the two officers and a number of men in the platoon when an illegal killing occurs during a village raid. As the war continues, Chris himself draws towards psychological meltdown. And as he struggles for survival, he soon realizes he is fighting two battles, the conflict with the enemy and the conflict between the men within his platoon.

Can you rec. me a few (or many) fantasy-romance books?
For example, things like Diana Gabaldon’s "Outlander" series, or Maggie Shayne’s "Prince of Twilight".
Any good, readable (meaning NO Twilight!) romance-fantasy books will do.

Thanks!

I don’t really read fantasy-romance but the Vampire Diaries is good:) Also, the House of Night series. It’s about vampires…it’s not really romance but there is defiantly romance in it though out the six books:)

Romance isn’t always the most major theme but i recommend Wicked lovely by melissa marr

House Of Night!!! They are fantasy, about Vampyres, and there is lots of romance, and drama!
Suh-weet | Jan 15, 2010

Like the answerer above (below?) me said, "Wicked Lovely" by Melissa Marr. It isn’t very romantic all the way, but I loved it and I think that it’d satisfy you.

Harry Potter comes next, and (although I don’t recommend it) you can skip to the 6th book cause there’s tons of romance in that one. We all know who the author is, don’t we?

That’s it, I don’t really read romantic stories. Lol. Sorry~~

Plot: Frozen in 1996, Phoenix, a convicted killer is “thawed” out for parole well into the 21st century. Revived into a crime free society, Phoenix resumes his murderous rampage, and no one can stop him. Spartan, the cop who captured Phoenix in 1996 has also been cryogenically frozen, this time for a crime he didn’t commit. In desperation they turn to Spartan to help recapture Phoenix.

If pregnant women love sex so much, as stated in my last question moments ago,….?
,..then WHY, according to the sci-fi movies 1993 "Demolition Man"(starring Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock) and 1996 movie "Last Exit to Earth",…those women did NOT care for sex with men at all? It doesn’t make sense.

A) In Demoliltion Man, the woman didn’t care for sex and didn’t mind being in a sexless future. She was not horny or missing it at all.

B) In the preview of Last Exit too Earth(no, I didn’t see the movie, but I’m assuming the preview reflected the entire movie), why when one of those women needed a sperm sample from a fertile male, she didn’t care for any foreplay or sex with him? He was like "What? No Foreplay"? If they lived in a world with very few men they could have sex with, and they liked sex like you claim, shouldn’t they have all been horny and miserable without it? In the preview of the movie, it gave the message that women don’t mind living in a sexless world and are perfectly happy with it like that.

EXPLAIN THAT…
I don’t know about you, but I would rather commit suicide or castrate myself than live in a sexless world like that since keeping my manhood yet knowing I can nbever use it would immense torture beyond belief, though I don’t women can say the same thing about sex with their womanhood.

Would you watch a show or be on a show called CAN YOU ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ?
The name speaks for it’s self but here is how it would go: you would get ten or so days to escape Alcatraz. You will be treated just like a normal criminal. If you can reach the raft at the end of the island you win. If one of the security guards get you then you loose. Do *Unbelievers* have FEAR with the return of *Jesus Christ*?
If you do not believe in GOD and the return of Jesus Christ do you thik that is going to prevent it from happening. ?
The falling economy, the climate change, the famine, death and disease, immorality, debauchery, the lies of Men will be revealed with the return of the King of Kings….

Who will be shamed? the Un-believers that stand in the Judgement of GOD….They will have no excuse for why they did not accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ, when they heard it, read about it and still denied it..They will have no excuse for why they did not obey everyone of GOD’s cmmandment…

So where is the fear? it is where the un-believers are sentenced….
Can you say in all honesty that if you are Judged to the Lake of Fire to live out eternity in the pain of anguish in your heart, in your mind and in everday living, you have no fear?

You can deny and say well that is not going to happen, but that does not prevent you or will you be able to evade your final destination…..

There is no fear with the followers of truth..GOD’s truth..

Jesus said:
Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

If "famine, disease and death" were happening everywhere in the world, then perhaps I’d be a little nervous, them problems are occurring in third world countries where money has and will be tight to come by, and thus results in these problems. The falling economy will reboot, the great depression didn’t signify the end the world.

You can go on and on with the return of christ, but I won’t believe a word of it.

The "signs" you’ve listed have been happening for thousands of years. People in Rome thought the world was ending when the western empire fell. The reasons the country is going to crap is because once an empire reaches its peak it has to go down. Our peak was probably the eighties.

No fear.
What’s going to prevent it from happening? The simple fact that it’s a fairy tale and has no basis in reality, that’s what. Even your magic jesus himself supposedly said he’d be back before people there with him were dead — and (if they ever existed) they’ve all been dead 1900+ years. That ship has sailed, magic jesus isn’t coming back.

Your spooky stories about magic boogey men and infinite punishments for a finite life don’t scare us — we, in fact, find them rather silly.

I can not fear something that does not exist.
There is no evidence any God exists.
There is no evidence that Christianity is true.
There is no evidence that Jesus was a real person.
There is evidence that Moses, Adam, Noah, and Abraham are fictional.
The Bible has never gotten anything right.
Pi is not 3
The sun does not circle the earth
The earth is not flat
There is no evidence that the universe is not organic in origin.
This is a myth and it is no different than Ragnarok. Myth and fiction not truth and not history.
Anna | Feb 09, 2010

There is absolutely nothing, aside from your ‘precious’ bible, that indicates there will be this return of your savior. And while you can shake and shiver from these ’signs’ you point out, we can point out that the claim of the Christ’s return has been made several times in the past; none of them have come to fruition.

So, to answer your question, no, there is no fear on my part. In fact, I am almost to the point of mockery in your belief that this Christ figure will one day appear "again" to save all of his believers.

I’m a believer in Jesus Christ and a Saved Christian. In my opinion, unbelievers are to afraid to accept the truth because they fear what might happen to them if they do. They might be afraid of accepting a higher power then themselves or be afraid of what their friends/family think of them once they become religious. As for Jesus Christ’s return, unbelievers have a fear of that and a fear of God himself. They are ashamed of God and refuse to accept his truth because they think there is no one better then themselves. The truth is we are precious in God’s eyes and he loves us very much, but we all have fallen short of the glory of God.

But.. lucky for us. Jesus Christ can fix that!

Just because you believe in God and the return of Jesus Christ doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. Let’s face it, people have been doing vile things to each other, often in the name of religion, since–well, since there *were* people. Please stop me before I start singing "We Didn’t Start the Fire".

You know what? I try to live a decent life. I try to be kind to others. I’m an honest person. If that’s not good enough for your god, well, I don’t know what to say. Sorry I didn’t believe in you, but the Bible is just too brutal for me to accept that God is good. And I refuse to accept that someone can be a vile human being all his life, accept Jesus on his deathbed, and he will be saved ahead of an atheist who lived an exemplary life. I want no truck with any "savior" like that.

If you have a question, please ask it. If you’re going to proselytize, go somewhere else.

Which anti-anxiety medication would work best?
I have been suffering from panic disorder and generalized anxiety since I was diagnosed at 15. For a few years i was on medication to treat just about everything (paxil for depression, klonopin for anxiety, xanax for panic, depakote for mood, etc) Three years ago I decided enough was enough, and that I would like to live a medicine-free life.(I felt like the pills were destroying my body.) With psychotherapy and a LOT of self help and help from God I’ve been able to manage exceptionally well, except for the last month. The panic attacks have come back with a vengeance, and it is even worsening my existing heart condition. I was in deep denial about the prospect of having to manage my anxiety with meds again, but i realized that my quality of life was being seriously destructed by my ongoing fear. I would like to take an anti-anxiety medication ONLY when necessary. Something that will take the edge off but not make me tired enough to interfere with my day.My question is, first of all, is it normal to come out of "remission" from panic disorder after having it under control for so long and, most importantly, what medication would work best to take ONLY when suffering from a panic attack, not every day.Thanks.(Also,one that doesn’t pose the risk for psychosis.)
Also, is Buspar a good choice? Has anyone had good or bad reactions to it? How about panic attacks with derealization? Any meds to help with that?

its not abnormal for this to happen. Xanax would be best short term. works fast.,,..then goes away

You should be asking a doctor this question. Really—- most of these anti-anxiety, whatever, drugs are controlled substance. That is, they are addictive. Only a doctor can and should prescribe them.

well that is not the best way to handle anxiety. you need a daily antidepressant to help manage it. i went through 10 different ones before i found one that agreed with my body chemistry. sadly that is about the only way to figure out which one will work best for you. there is not a one size fits all drug out there, you have to find one that works for you. stay off the benzo’s (klonopin, xanax, etc) for best results. those will help in the short term but do not actually treat the problem.

In response to your first question, I imagine it’s easy to come out of a remission from panic disorder. Any little bit of stress could trigger it all over again.

In MY history I’ve only taken Xanax and Valium. Xanax has a short-acting and short half-life, so it acts quickly and leaves your body fairly quickly. Valium has a longer half-life, and takes longer to "kick in" however it isn’t quite as potent as Xanax so it didn’t knock me out. I also used to take an anxiety medication that was non-benzodiazepine related and it was called Buspar. I hear some people get relief from this, but I received no help. I got none of the drowsiness or benzo-related side effects though either.

Lately I’ve been trying some herbal remedies for my anxiety and insomnia. This includes passion flower, skullcap, valerian, kava kava, and lemon balm (melissa). They tend to relax me a little, they work better than the Buspar did, and they have a low risk for addiction and the tolerance issues aren’t as common with them. If you’re interested in that, you could google "anxiety herbal remedies" and go to a health food store for them. I just figured it was worth a shot for me if it got me off of prescription medications.

Anyway, I wish you luck with your anxiety! It’s a tough road to travel.

Edit: I have tried Buspar, unfortunately it gave me little to no actual relief, though some people actually get help from it, but it was something I was supposed to take daily, not as needed. However, the side effects were very minimal, so that’s a plus side. It could help you.

I have had an anxiety disorder sense childhood. Like you mine has gone in "remission" at times.

When I have had to restart a medication I have started with .5mg of klonopin 2xs a day.

it’s not a large dose and it doesn’t give you that mind fog.

I would ask the doctor for klonopin, and take it as needed.
